Crise no Congo iminente

Enquanto os europeus se digladiam para resolver a crise econômico-financeira e manterem-se unidos, na parte esquecida do mundo a nuvens negras se formam. Com a vitória de Kabila, contestada pela oposição, a situação no Congo agrava-se a cada hora. A possibilidade da disputa política acabar em violência é grande… E o mundo assistirá (sem dar grande atenção, é verdade) a mais uma tragédia africana…

KINSHASA (Reuters) – The main challenger in Democratic Republic of Congo’s election declared himself president on Friday and poured scorn on provisional official results handing victory to the incumbent, Joseph Kabila.

“O homem que disse não à Europa” – esse título ilustra bem as severas críticas da Der Spiegel à decisão de David Cameron de vetar as reformas econômicas propostas pelo eixo Paris-Berlim para salvar a zona do Euro. Como sempre, parece que ilha deseja manter-se isolada (ou seria o continente que estaria isolado, conforme o Times no século XIX?)…

De toda maneira, os britânicos deixaram claro que não querem se envolver em uma crise que pensam não ser deles… e o processo de integração é que acaba prejudicado. Será que Londres esqueceu que pertence a um bloco? Enfim, o problema permanece e há muito que as relações européias não se mostravam tão abaladas…

British Prime Minister David Cameron has completely isolated his country on the European stage — and many in his country applaud him for it. But he will soon have to prove that London still has clout in the EU, and that his no to fiscal union wasn’t just a bone thrown to euroskeptic conservatives.

The decision by British Prime Minster David Cameron to block a European Union treaty change by using his country’s veto power has sparked a festive atmosphere among euroskeptics in the United Kingdom. “At last,” Lord Norman Tebbitt, once one of Margaret Thatcher’s closest confidants, blogged on the Daily Telegraph’s website. Cameron, he wrote, has applied the very veto that former Prime Minister John Major should have used against the Maastricht Treaty, which created the euro. “We should just be grateful,” he added.
